Jenny Fell
After obtaining her first degree in print-making and art history, Jenny was keen to continue working in this medium. However, as equipment was expensive and she had few resources, she began lino-cut printing using a Victorian mangle and old lino from the Barn Centre in Aberystwyth where she had her first studio. Jenny used a 'Setting Up' grant awarded by the Arts Council of Wales to purchase other equipment and materials. Soon after setting up she began to open her studio to others and ran classes in print-making. This set the precedent for the rest of her career as an artist which spans nearly thirty years; Jenny has worked with a wide spectrum of the community in various art forms from print-making to textiles and from mosaic to painting.
She has been involved in public art commissions in Wales which have included working with local communities. Jenny has also illustrated many poetry books for children, published mainly by Gomer Press, Wales. She has shown her work widely in over fifty one-person and group shows throughout Britain.
Jenny Fell has been generously supported by the Arts Council of Wales and as well the Setting Up grant has also been awarded a Travel Award to take part in a public art event in Dusseldorf (1990), an interest-free loan (1991), a Training Grant (2010) and a further Training Grant in 2013.
Other work
From 1984-1996 Jenny worked at Aberystwyth Arts Centre initially as exhibitions assistant and then Visual Arts Publicity Officer. After leaving the arts centre she became a free-lance publicity consultant, working for organisations such as the International Ceramics Festival, Aberystwyth and Crafts Forum Wales.
In 2001 Jenny was awarded her first artist residency funded by ACW and Denbighshire Arts Services and worked with patients and staff on a print-making project at St.Kentigern's Hospice in St Asaph, north Wales. This was followed by other Arts in Health Projects in community hospitals in N.E Wales, working with both patients and staff on creative projects to enhance the hospital environment from 2003-2009.
